More train services for the west

There will be more trains on the Western Line from Monday, 9 May.

Auckland Transport’s Rail Services Manager Craig Inger says services to and from the west are being increased to meet demand. “We are seeing strong growth on the Western Line particularly since electric trains were introduced last year.

“On weekdays there were now be trains every 10 minutes during peak times, so passengers will be able to turn up and go.”

Trains will operate every 10 minutes Monday to Friday between 0600 and 0900 towards Britomart and from 1430 to 1900 westbound.

During the day services will operate every 20 minutes and at other times and on the weekend every 30 minutes.

Mr Inger says there will also be some minor changes to services on some other lines.

Pukekohe shuttle:

• Departure times are changing for Pukekohe services with some services departing earlier

• First Monday to Friday departure from Pukekohe will be at 05:03

• Extra Friday night service to Pukekohe departing Papakura at 23:01(the connecting service departs Britomart at 21:58)

• All Pukekohe trains will depart from and arrive at platform 4 at Papakura

Onehunga line:

• All weekday services will depart a few minutes earlier.

• Some minor changes to weekend times

Southern line

• Some changes to departure times

Eastern line:

• No changes

In the 12 months to the end of March public transport use in Auckland increased by 4.1% and now exceeds 81.4 million passengers trips a year. Train passenger numbers were up 19%.
