Whitianga green waste drop-off site re-opens
Whitianga green waste drop-off site at biosolids composter re-opens
We're re-opening
the green waste drop-off facility next to our biosolids
composter in Whitianga.
We closed the facility for drop-offs for about a month while we reorganised the site, at 48 Moewai Road.
Your green waste gets mulched and then mixed with the biosolid product that comes out of our wastewater treatment plant and put through the composter to produce clean and safe Grade Aa compost. This compost currently gets used by our parks and reserves team but should shortly be available for public sale.
Please drop off suitable green waste on Wednesdays from 10am-12 noon and Saturdays and Sundays between 10am and 3pm - the same hours it was open before.
It's important that you drop off green waste that is suitable for mulching. If it's material that we can't use, our on-site supervisor will reject it and you will need to take it to the Refuse Transfer Station.
What sort of green waste do we
want?
What we
want:
• Grass clippings
• Hedge and bush
clippings including branches that are no greater in diameter
than 100mm. Branches must have green, leafy bits still
attached - just like in the photo on the right. No bare
branches please.
• Weeds - if they're mixed in with
hedge and bush clippings
What we don't want:
• Branches that are more than 100mm in
diameter
• Branches that have no leaves attached
•
Flaxes
• Root balls
• Soft species (they can't be
mulched)
• Plastic, cardboard and other household
rubbish. This should go in your recycling wheelie bin or
blue Council rubbish bags for kerbside collection or be
taken to the Refuse Transfer Station for disposal. See
www.tcdc.govt.nz/rts for hours
and locations. See www.tcdc.govt.nz/kerbside for
the rubbish and recycling collection in your area.
For more information on the biosolids composter, see www.tcdc.govt.nz/biosolidcomposter
Here's
what we don't want:
The root balls, flaxes
and household rubbish in the picture above are examples of
what we don't want dropped off to be mulched to go in the
biosolids composter. Our on-site supervisor will reject
loads containing these types of items and you will need to
take them to the Refuse Transfer Station for
disposal.
