Auckland named next region to host TRENZ

Auckland has been named host region for the 2017 instalment of TRENZ – New Zealand’s biggest annual tourism event.

The four-day event, which will be held 9-12 May 2017, at The Cloud and Shed 10 on Auckland’s waterfront, bringstogether more than 300 New Zealand tourism exhibitors with at least 350 targeted international travel buyers and media from New Zealand’s key established and emerging tourism markets.

Today’s announcement came on the final day of TRENZ 2016, held this week in Rotorua.

Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED) Chief Executive Brett O’Riley says, “We are thrilled to see TRENZ return to Auckland in 2017.

“We have continued to see the positive flow on effects from the last time we hosted TRENZ in 2014, with many of the buyers we formed relationships with at that event continuing to sell and promote Auckland.

“As host region, Auckland not only benefits from the immediate economic impacts from having the people attending TRENZ staying in accommodation, eating in restaurants and experiencing some of Auckland’s tourism activities, all of which injects an estimated $2 million into the local economy. It also helps leave a lasting impression on the buyers who visit and secures Auckland’s place on future itineraries.

“We are looking forward to giving buyers and media attending next year’s event a first-hand experience of Auckland and can promise an unforgettable programme of activities and experiences.”

Tourism Industry Aotearoa (TIA) Chief Executive Chris Roberts says hosting TRENZ helps extend the region’s profile with hundreds of international buyers, maximising the local investment in the event.

“After two highly successful years in Rotorua, we look forward to taking TRENZ back to New Zealand’s biggest city and international gateway,” he says.
