The Sound Sessions, Featuring Citizen Band

To celebrate NZ Music Month, The Sound asked listeners which New Zealand band they’d like to see reunite for a one-off performance. The Citizen Band was a popular choice, so Leah, Nik and Rigor from The Morning Sound called bass player Mike Chunn to ask the question.

He said yes, he was happy to get the band back together – but for a one night only celebration.

Best known for their songs 'Rust In My Car' and 'I Feel Good', Citizen Band includes brothers Mike and Geoff Chunn, who both had a Split Enz pedigree; and Brent Eccles and Greg Clark, who had a glam rock start in Space Waltz. In old-school 1970s rock parlance, they were a super-group.

The Sound Sessions in Auckland will be the first time Citizen Band have played together in six years. Mike says the audience can expect, “a seasoned display of tight, energetic renditions of time honoured favourites. Citizen Band salutes The Sound for its cool celebration of NZ Music Month, and for playing NZ tracks through the year!"

Also joining The Sound Sessions at the Tuning Fork will be Andrew McLennan's Telling Tales - from Coconut Rough, The Pop Mechanix and The Swingers. Playing with Tracey Collins, Stephanie Crawford and Nick Jones, with guest violinist Kim Greuber, Andrew says they are all people with wonderful pedigree: “Kim for example toured the world with the Hot House Flowers; Tracey is unique in New Zealand with her brand of accordion playing; Nick Jones is a virtuoso violinist and Stephanie is a great singer songwriter in her own right.”

The Sound Content Director Mal Lewis says, “It’s an extremely exciting event for The Sound, the chance to celebrate NZ Music Month with our listeners and reform one of the country's much loved bands at a venue that is one of the best for live music.”
