South Island highways and roads affected by snow and ice
CTOC Advisory - South Island Update highways and roads affected by snow and ice, one highway closure Pomahaka Bridge
Due to snow warnings in place for Arthurs Pass,
Lewis Pass, Porter Pass, and now, the Lindis Pass, we urge
that all motorists considering using these routes have
chains available for use.
For further information on road closures and other issues affecting State Highways, please see NZTA Traffic.
The following issues are currently affecting South Island State Highways.
• NEW: SH90 Pomahaka Bridge - As
a result of flooding the road is now CLOSED. The next update
is expected at 8am tomorrow.
• NEW: SH83 Kurow
to Omarama - - Ice on the road is likely in this area. Extra
care is needed.
• NEW: SH83 Oamaru to Kurow -
flooding near the intersection with Elstone Rd. Extra care
is needed.
• NEW: SH8 Omarama to Tarras (Lindis
Pass) - Snow on the road & chains are essential. Extra care
is needed.
• NEW: Snow warnings are in place
for Arthurs Pass, Lewis Pass and Porter Pass.
•
SH85 Kyeburn to Palmerston - The road is closed to towing
vehicles and chains are essential for all traffic. Care is
needed.
• SH97 Mossburn to Five Rivers -
Flooding - Take extra care.
• SH6 Nokomai to
Fairlight - Flooding - Take extra care.
• SH8
Omarama to Cromwell - Snow and ice - Take extra care.

SH6 Haast to Makarora (Haast Pass) The road is down to one
lane as storm damage is repaired and cleaned up.
