Southern DHB performance against Health Targets continues to improve

Southern DHB continues to see improvements in its performance against the National Health Targets.

Southern DHB Chief Executive, Carole Heatly says the latest results are particularly pleasing.

The latest quarter health target results for 2015/16 quarter three (January to March 2016) show the DHB in the top 10 rankings for DHBs in five out of the six targets.

The DHB's performance against the National Health Target ‘Better Help for Smokers’ to Quit for primary care was also met for the first time. The increase represents 90 percent of primary health enrolled patients who smoke have been offered help and advice to quit by a health professional in the last 15 months. This compares to 87 percent in Quarter 2, and 85 percent in Quarter 1.

‘The increase reflects the hard work that Primary Care Organisation, WellSouth have been undertaking to improve performance,” said Ms Heatly.

Southern DHB also continues to exceed the number of elective surgeries it is required to deliver, exceeding the 100 percent target by 7 percent, meaning more people have received the help they need.

“We are consistently meeting this important target and we’re pleased that our patients continue to be able to access more elective surgery which has a positive impact on their quality of life and well-being.

“We look forward to continuing to improve our targets further and providing better, sooner and more convenient healthcare for our patients,” said Ms Heatly.
