Late night hours extended to other district libraries

Late night hours extended to other district libraries

Tuakau library will now have a late night added to its existing hours from this Thursday, 26 May, with the library remaining open on Thursdays until 8pm. The move adds to already-improved services at the Council’s Ngaruawahia and Raglan libraries, which have each had a late night (Wednesdays) in place for some time now.

The provision of late nights for these three libraries confirms Council’s commitment to providing additional library services under its Long Term Plan. People who previously couldn’t get to a library during normal business hours will be able to use the once a week late night service at these three sites.

Council statistics recorded since hours were extended in Ngaruawahia and Raglan libraries also confirm their late nights have proved popular at both venues and continue to do so. Ngaruawahia library sees around 50-plus more people through the door each week as a result of its extended hours. Regular library-user Pareoranga Te Kata is particularly appreciative of the extra computer and WIFI access. “It’s so local, convenient and a privilege. Not so restricted and easier to manage my time, planning and deadlines for my self-directed learning.”

Raglan Integrated Library and Council venue saw an average 70-plus more people a week through its doors during the summer months and although that’s dropped as the season’s changed, there are still a good number of people taking advantage of its extended hours. These include small community groups who are taking up the opportunity to host discussion groups, knitting circles, and other activities in the coming weeks.
