Dig in for Pāpāmoa planting days

30 May 2016

Members of the public are invited to roll up their sleeves for a good cause at Papamoa Hills this long weekend. With around 2500 native plants ready to go into the ground, Regional Council is hoping people get behind this revegetation project.

More than 60,000 natives have already been planted at Papamoa Hills Regional Park since 2009 and this mahi is creating an environment where flora and fauna can flourish.

Pāpāmoa Hills Park Ranger Mark Ray says by retiring this steep land not only are we protecting waterways but controlling weed species too.

“There is something very satisfying about planting something in the ground, especially when it’s with a group of motivated people keen to make a difference.”

“This long weekend, all we ask is that volunteers turn up in sturdy footwear and a drink bottle - everything else can be provided”, he says

Over the last year around 100,000 people visited Pāpāmoa hills.

Planting will take place from 9am till noon on June 3 and 4. Meet at the Pāpāmoa Hill Regional Car Park. Phone 0800 884 880 for more information.
