Waipareira Urges Westies To Go To Waitakere A & E

Whānau Waipareira is again urging westies to take their after-hours illnesses straight to Waitakere Hospital Accident & Emergency Department.

With the winter chill about to descend, whānau will find untreated coughs and flus could easily escalate.

Waipareira CEO John Tamihere said the $92 cost (6pm-8am) for a medical visit to an after-hours clinic in west Auckland, is outrageous and was an impediment for whānau.

“Many within our community can’t afford that ridiculous overhead,” John said.

“I would urge whānau to go straight to the Waitakere Hospital’s Accident & Emergency if they are ill and I would expect that they be treated with respect and quality.”

Waipareira has authorised consecutive adverts to run in the Western Leader newspaper.

“We have whānau coming to us saying they can’t afford the costs and instead of seeking immediate medical care, they wait until the morning,” John said.

“We can’t allow this to continue because what we don’t want is a whānau member to die or be hospitalised because they didn’t have the money for proper treatment.

“This is a major west Auckland community issue and I know Waitakere A&E is obliged listen to what the community is saying,”

From Thursday, June 2, the Western Leader will run adverts that will continue in the next two issues.

“This is a very important campaign for Waipareira advocating on behalf of the West,” John said.
