Missing hunter near Makahika, Levin – UPDATE

A Defence Force helicopter is assisting in the search for a pig hunter missing near Makahika, near Levin.

The NH90 is supporting a number of Police and Land Search and Rescue (LandSAR) teams on the ground.

These teams have been drawn from a number of areas, including Horowhenua, Palmerston North, the Tararuas, Whanganui and Taihape.

The search was mounted for the novice hunter yesterday after his hunting companion raised the alarm after they became separated.

Last night another helicopter, from the Philips Search and Rescue Trust, was used.

It is equipped with night vision and infrared technology.

The hunter is in his 20s.
