Swimming lessons not free for under-5s – clarification

Wellington City Council feels compelled to make it disappointingly clear to a large number of local parents that, unfortunately, it cannot offer free swimming lessons to children under 5 years of age.

Staff at the Council’s swimming pools have been dealing with a heavy increase in phone calls and inquiries over the past 48 hours – since Councillors voted at an Annual Plan meeting on Wednesday 1 June to make general pools admission free for children under 5.

The vote to confirm free entry for under-5s is also subject to confirmation at a full Council meeting on 29 June. If it is confirmed, the free entry will be available from 1 July.
