Taranaki Police begin homicide inquiry

Taranaki Police have begun a homicide investigation following the death of an Eltham man on Friday 3 June, 2016.

He was Rex Karaitiana, 50, of Eltham.

Mr Karaitiana was taken to Taranaki Base Hospital yesterday (Thursday 2 June) with suspected stab wounds, but died earlier today.

Our thoughts are with Mr Karaitiana’s family.

Police are continuing to provide them with the appropriate support.

A 46-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with murder.

She has been remanded in custody and has interim name suppression.

Police are not currently seeking anyone else in connection with the inquiry.

However, detectives are appealing for further information to assist their investigation.

They would like to hear from anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the Eltham area on Wednesdayevening and/or Thursday morning.

Any sightings of a green, 1999 Ford Laser, 5-door hatchback in the Eltham Kaponga area are also of interest.

Anyone with information is asked to contact their local Police, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
