Tools at the ready, it's competition time!

Young tradespeople battle it out for regional titles.

WorldSkills New Zealand regional competition in Plumbing & Gasfitting will take place on Saturday 11th June at the Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT) Plumbing School. Competitors will duel it out in Plumbing & Heating and compete to represent their industry and region in the WorldSkills NZ National Competition to be held 29-2 October 2016.

MIT will also host regional competitions for Automotive Repair and Automotive Technology on Saturday 18th June.

"Competitors in the regional competitions have the potential to make it all the way through to our high-performance national team - the Tool Blacks", says WorldSkills CEO Malcolm Harris. "And if they do they’ll be competing for titles at the 44th WorldSkills International Competition in Abu Dhabi in 2017".

The regional competitions are challenging, with competitors completing a skill based project typically taking around eight hours from start to finish.

WorldSkills NZ encourage any young person, their parents, caregivers, aunts and uncles, brothers, sisters and teachers - anyone - to come along to the regional competitions.

Harris adds, "Spectators boost the morale of the competitors and it is great way to see the huge amount of skill these trades involve."

Experts will be on site to advise and guide competitors and support them through the competition process.

Competition at MIT will be held at the Plumbing School, 9b Mahunga Drive, Mangere Bridge, Auckland on Saturday 11 June, 0900 - 1600. Judging will commence at approximately 1500.
