Great turnout for Volunteer and Business Expo in
Thames
Students and school-leavers from
Thames to Coromandel Town attended the Volunteer and
Business Expo held at the Civic Centre today.
The Expo was an opportunity to give our school-leavers a chance to take a look at the kinds of employment opportunities and career paths available in the Coromandel - as well as opportunities to be part of the many volunteer organisations in the district.
"We want them to see areas they can work here, rather than feel they have to leave the region to get employment," said Deputy Mayor Peter French.
"We also want to highlight the type of work that young people may be able to return to if they do leave the area for study, travel or work."
The driving force behind the volunteer part of the expo was the Coromandel Youth Collective, in conjunction with The Thames Community House, Volunteer Waikato and Thames-Coromandel District Council, and funded by the Ministry of Youth Development.
The Business part of the expo showcased local businesses and was organised by CAN DO - a group of like-minded business people in the community, who are focused on business growth and employment.
