PAK’nSAVE bags winning design

PAK’nSAVE bags winning design

The naming sponsor’s distinctive yellow shopping bags featured as one of the key elements in this year’s winning design at the Hastings PAK’nSAVE Edible Fashion Awards.

Constructed from Black Knight licorice and yellow shopping bags, the winning entry Bride of the Black Knight, was praised by the judges for its structure, the way it adorned the human body and its beautiful colour palette of yellow, black and white.

Walking away with more than $4,000 in prize money, designer Darrell Woodward told the 600-strong crowd that she was inspired to enter by watching the 2015 Awards show. “This time last year, I sat in the audience and thought next year, I’m going to give it a go.”

Another strikingly simple and structured design, Macaroni Madness was announced as runner-up, with designer Christine Fawzy inspired by her Egyptian heritage.

With a record number of entries for the 2016 Awards, judges described selecting the winners as a “very difficult decision” and hoped the finalists represented what edible fashion is all about.

A new award for 2016, The Unio Goldsmith & Gallery Jewellery and Accessory Award was presented to Annabel McCallum and Libby Spooner for their whimsical creation Horton packs his trunk.
International model and television personality Colin Mathura-Jeffree presented The Top Model Award to Maddison Kaye, promising to organise a portfolio shoot for the young model.

Fittingly, in their final year as naming sponsor of the event, PAK’nSAVE’s yellow shopping bags featured strongly on stage. Sandra Hazlehurst, Chair of the Hastings Arts and Cultures Trust, thanked them for their ten-year association with the Awards and praised them for their “direction, vision and belief in the event.”
