Rural libraries to offer extra services

Rural libraries to offer extra services

Dunedin (Tuesday, 14 June 2016) – From next month, Waikouaiti coast residents will be able to pay their rates and register their dogs at their local libraries.

From Monday 4 July, Blueskin Bay and Waikouaiti Libraries join their Port Chalmers and Mosgiel counterparts in providing a full range of Dunedin City Council service centre functions.

Dunedin Public Libraries Manager Customer Experience Mike Collett says this means residents will be able to access many more services, such as paying their rates and parking infringements, and making consent and rate rebate applications.

As well as these new services, both libraries will continue to sell DCC recycling bins, Bokashi bins and rubbish bags, and provide access to DCC information.

Blueskin Bay Librarian Louise Booth says, “It will be great to be able to provide this new service for local residents. A number of customers have told me how handy it will be to be able to pay their rates and register their dog when picking up their library books.”

Waikouaiti Librarian Eryn Makinson says, “It’s a win-win for us and our customers. We will be providing an increased range of services and we expect this will bring more people through our doors, including people who may not be current library users.”

Opening hours at both libraries will be extended slightly from 4 July to make it easier for library and service centre customers to find time to pop in.
