State Highway 1 traffic at Rangiriri now on new alignment - drive with extra care and attention

Motorists travelling on State Highway 1 (SH1) through Rangiriri should be prepared for a new road layout and traffic management.

SH1 traffic was moved on to the Rangiriri Section of the Waikato Expressway overnight on Monday.

One lane in each direction is open under traffic management,

Alongside opening the main alignment, the interchanges at Te Kauwhata and Rangiriri have been partially opened. A map of the changes from our latest project update is available from www.nzta.govt.nz/rangiriri

The NZ Transport Agency would like to remind motorists that the Rangiriri Interchange is controlled by traffic signals which are working on demand. Please stop on the red signal for your own safety and the safety of those you share the road with.

The changes mark the completion stage 1 of the Rangiriri Section. The next stage is expected to be complete in September, when further connections to the interchanges are expected to be complete.

Until then, all south-bound traffic on SH1 wanting to access Te Kauwhata, Rangiriri and Glen Murray needs to exit at Wayside Road.

Meanwhile, north-bound traffic wanting to access Rangiriri and Glen Murray will exit at the new Rangiriri Interchange, while north-bound traffic to Te Kauwhata will use the new Te Kauwhata Interchange exit.

All these exits are well signposted.

The contractor Fletcher Construction has worked to improve signage for local traffic in the area.

Motorists are asked to pay careful attention to the signs and obey the posted speed limit as work will continue to complete the main alignment. The project will be fully completed by April 2017.
