Southland Police investigating rural burglaries

"Southland Police investigating rural burglaries "

Police investigating two burglaries in Wallacetown between 17 and 25 June are calling for information about a grey single cab ute acting suspiciously in the area.

In the first burglary items, including a firearm, were stolen from the shed and also the home while in the second items were taken from the garage.

Senior Sergeant Craig Dinnissen says there has been a recent increase in rural burglaries in the Western and Eastern Southland area with items targeted including farm motorbikes, dirt bikes and tools.

Given this recent activity Police would like to remind property owners to ensure they secure their homes as well as any garages, sheds or out buildings.

Another way for members of the public to protect their property is to create and store an asset list of property serial numbers on SNAP a free online tool facilitated by New Zealand Police.

The SNAP tool can also be used for the recording of serial numbers for firearms.

For more information visit www.snap.org.nz.

Another good way to keep you and your property safe is to keep in touch with your neighbours and share contact numbers so we can all watch out for each other.

Police would like to remind the community that should they see suspicious behaviour they need to call 111 immediately.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Southland Police on 03 211 0559 or alternatively information can be anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
