Waikato Police appeal for final sightings of man whose body was found in Hamilton
Waikato Police are
appealing to the public for any last known sightings of a
man whose body was found in a cardboard bale at a Hamilton
recycling plant on Tuesday.
The man can now be identified as 40-years-old Daniel Bindner of Te Awamutu.
Waikato Police Detective Inspector Hywel Jones says Police’s thoughts are with Mr Binder’s family at this difficult time as the investigation continues into the circumstances surrounding his death.
“The post
mortem examination of Mr Bindner was completed late
yesterday however results were inconclusive.
We are now
awaiting further testing to help determine the exact cause
of his death,” says Detective Inspector Jones.
“Today we’re following numerous lines of enquiry,
focusing on the Te Awamutu area, as our investigation
continues into the circumstances of Mr Bindner’s
unexplained death.
This includes establishing his final
movements.
“The last recorded sighting we have of Mr Binder was at 11.04pm on Tuesday, June 21st, leaving McDonald’s restaurant in Sloane St, Te Awamutu.
“From that point on we are trying to establish what
his movements were in the Te Awamutu area.
We’d like to
hear from anyone who may have seen Mr Bindner in the area
around or after 11.04pm.
“Mr Bindner was reported
to Police as missing on Monday this week (June 27) and we
were actively pursuing this missing person inquiry.
We
believe that in the days leading up to his final sightings
he may have been sleeping rough in Te Awamutu.
“He
is described as European, 176cm tall, of medium build and
with dark brown/black straight medium-length hair.
On the
evening of Tuesday, June 21st he was wearing brown work
boots, blue jeans, a dark jacket, a dark long-sleeved hooded
sweatshirt, and a dark beanie hat on his head.
He was
carrying a black shoulder bag.
“At this stage we believe Mr Binder’s body was transported from the Te Awamutu area in a recycling truck to Oji Fibre Solutions in Hamilton.
“Late yesterday we completed our scene examination at Oji Fibre Solutions where Mr Bindner’s body was discovered on Tuesday, and we want to extend our thanks to the company for its full cooperation during this time.
Anyone who may have had sightings of Mr Bindner, or information that may help the investigation, can contact Waikato Police on 07 858 6200 or they can provide information anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
