Lyttelton Tunnel overnight work continues this week, 11- 15 July 2016: expect short delays after 9 pm

The NZ Transport Agency has a number of projects underway in the Lyttelton Tunnel in July.

The works, which will restrict the tunnel to one-way operation from 9 pm to 6 am (ie overnight) began last week and continue this week, 11 – 15 July.
What is happening?
There are three different projects underway:

· Replacement of the centre line smart studs (illuminated cat’s eyes) for the full length of the tunnel

· Cleaning and replacement of the tunnel lighting and

· Installation of air quality monitoring equipment.


By coordinating these works, the Transport Agency is able to will save a further seven nights of closure, said Transport Agency Journey Manager Lee Wright.

“Thanks to everyone for their patience and planning around these short delays while the one-way system operates this week.”
