Candidate Information Meetings are on this weekend

You are unique. You are the only person who has your exact blend of experience and interests. If you think your skills and perspective could be useful in making decisions for the future of your district, we'd love you to consider standing in the upcoming local body elections.

Just take a moment to think about the kinds of things for which Council is responsible: parks and reserves, footpaths, boat ramps and wharves, sports and recreation facilities, economic development projects, local roads, and water and wastewater infrastructure.

Could you give time to work on behalf of the community or the district on these? Because that's really what it’s all about. What you need the most to be an elected member, apart from being a New Zealand citizen and enrolled on the parliamentary electoral roll, is a willingness to participate and a commitment to serve your local community.

The roles are Mayor, Councillors to represent your ward, and Community Board Members which will represent those individual areas (there are five: Mercury Bay, Coromandel-Colville, Thames, Tairua-Pauanui, Whangamata).

There are also roles in Regional Council and on the District Health Board representing the Coromandel.

Each of these roles influences a different type of activity. For example, if your passion is waterways, then that's a Regional Council focus, whereas if it's water supply to your town, then that's a local Council focus.
