Applications open for $1 million regional fund

Applications for the $1 million Wellington Regional Amenities Fund are open now.

The fund, chaired by Wellington Mayor Celia Wade-Brown, supports regionally significant organisations that help achieve strategic priorities for the region including economic growth, regional connectedness, and competitive advantage. The five-year-old fund encourages collaboration across the region.

The fund is focused on arts, culture, and environmental organisations, which contribute to the attractiveness of the Wellington region as a place to live and visit, as well as adding to the vitality of the region and the wellbeing of the population.

In 2015/16 the fund supported more than 10 initiatives, including the hugely popular New Zealand Festival, which celebrated its 30th birthday this year, and the Matariki Festival – a regional celebration of Maori culture. The Kāpiti Coast’s Mahara Gallery also benefitted with a grant contributing to its ongoing redevelopment programme.

According to Fund Manager Katie Taylor-Duke the grants enable organisations to do more to contribute a more connected, diverse, accessible setting for the region’s arts, culture and environmental sectors.

“We want to support organisations to make better long-term strategic decisions, to take their offerings wider, and to magnify the fundamental role they play in making our region exciting and vibrant,” says Katie.

The Wellington Regional Amenities Fund is a partnership between the Wellington City, Hutt City, Upper Hutt City, and Porirua city councils and the Kāpiti Coast District Council.
