Fatal Crash in Ormond, Gisborne

One person is dead and a second person has serious injuries following a fatal crash on SH2 just north of Ormond in Gisborne this morning.

Police and emergency services were called at 5:15am to the crash on SH2 between Ngakoroa Road and Bond Road.

The road is closed and diversions are in place via Lavenham Road for southbound traffic and Back Ormond Road for northbound.

Uh oh. Bird flu – often deadly to humans - is not only being transmitted from infected birds to dairy cows, but is now travelling between dairy cows. As of last Friday, Bloomberg News reports, there were 32 American dairy herds with H5N1 infections. They’re located in Idaho, New Mexico, Texas, South Dakota, Kansas, Michigan, Ohio and North Carolina. Reportedly, many of the cows are asymptomatic.
