Search for Mary Berrington – UPDATE 3

Search for Mary Berrington – UPDATE 3

Police and Land Search and Rescue teams are continuing to search for a third day for missing Upper Hutt woman Mary Berrington.

The search today involves an intensive ground search of properties and out buildings in the immediate vicinity of Mary’s home on Fergusson Drive, Upper Hutt.

Over 50 Police and Land Search and Rescue volunteers have been searching today along with concerned family members and an army of community volunteers.

Today the Police Dive Squad searched the Hutt River from the Totara Park overbridge south for any sign of Mary or for indications that she may be in the river.

The search for Mary began on Wednesday after she was reported missing.

Since then Police and Land Search and Rescue teams have completed extensive searches.

We have spoken with Mary’s family this afternoon and while the search will continue tomorrow we are coming to a point where we may need to scale back efforts as searches have been completed of all reasonably possible areas where Mary could be.

Police and Mary’s family would like to thank everyone who has supported the search operation so far.

“Everyone has worked tirelessly over the last three days to try and find Mary and return her to her family.

The search effort has been exhaustive across a wide area using both professional and volunteer searchers,” said Sergeant Anthony Harmer.
