MEDIA RELEASE

Council welcomes plans to revitalise Rimu Road

TUESDAY 2 AUGUST 2016

Expansion plans along Rimu Road announced by Coastlands yesterday support the Council’s vision of creating a vibrant, diverse and thriving town centre.

Group Manager Infrastructure Services Sean Mallon says Council has been working closely with Coastlands over the past few years as part of its Paraparaumu town centre transformation project.

“We recognised early on that the only way we can achieve the type of transformation required for both the Paraparaumu and Waikanae town centres was by working in partnership with the community and with business.

“Coastlands is a major player in the Paraparaumu town centre and the plans for transforming the civic precinct and Rimu Road area have always recognised Coastlands role.

“Our aim is to develop Rimu Road as Paraparaumu’s main street featuring more retail and other businesses.

“We have been working closely with Coastlands to share and align our ideas and work towards a cohesive development that complements other work to transform the Paraparaumu town centre.

Mr Mallon says future plans in this area of the town centre also include developing Iver Trask Place and a destination playground west of the library.

Council’s plans for Rimu Road to link the civic precinct with Coastlands were shared with the public in June.

“We are now entering the detailed design phase of this project and we will continue to work with Coastlands and other businesses to ensure our plans for the Paraparaumu town centre align and we create something that we can all be proud of.”
