Morrinsville student takes Roger Harris scholarship for 2016
A university student from
Morrinsville studying for a civil engineering degree is this
year’s winner of the prestigious Roger Harris (Waihou
Valley Scheme Scholarship) from Waikato Regional Council.
The award of the $6000 scholarship to Eleanor van Bysterveldt was announced at today’s Waihou Piako catchment committee meeting.
Eleanor, who completed her secondary education at Hauraki Plains College, is currently in her first year at Auckland University studying towards a Bachelor of Civil Engineering.
The application round for this year drew 10 very good applicants but the scholarship selection panel decided Eleanor best met the award’s criteria and objectives.
The scholarship
honours Roger Harris, chief engineer of the then Hauraki
Catchment Board from 1959-1983, for his contribution to the
development and implementation of the Waihou Valley flood
protection scheme.
The scholarship is available to students from the Waihou Piako zone who are pursuing undergraduate study in the fields of engineering or resource management with particular reference to river and catchment management.
