Election Nominations Closing This Week - Update

Council and community board nominations for the 2016 local body elections close this week.

Nominations for the Council must be in the hands of Electoral Officer, Jude Wadsworth, by 12 midday on Friday 12 August at the Civic Building, 175 Rimu Road, Paraparaumu.

Ms Wadsworth says 29 nominations have been lodged to date [9 August, 2016 at 3.20pm], but there may still be some way to go with the total number of candidates at the close of nominations in 2013 reaching nearly 60.

“There are still some positions where it would be great to get a few more nominations lodged, like for Community Boards,” Ms Wadsworth says.

“We’re encouraging prospective candidates not to leave it until the last minute. Local body elections are the perfect opportunity for people to put up their hand and get involved in developing the thriving, diverse and vibrant district we have in Kāpiti.”

Nominations are open for the positions of Mayor, Districtwide Councillor, Ōtaki Community Board, Ōtaki Ward, Paekākāriki Community Board, Paekākāriki-Raumati Ward, Paraparaumu-Raumati Community Board, Paraparaumu Ward, Waikanae Community Board and Waikanae Ward.

A list of candidates who have been nominated is updated daily after 4pm on the Council’s website at www.kapiticoast.govt.nz/elections
