Police continue investigation into death of John Morton

The investigation into the death of John Murray ‘Muzza’ Morton in Nelson is continuing and the search area has now been extended.

A detailed examination of the boats moored at Queen Elizabeth II Drive and the immediate area nearby is complete.

Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Johnston has now brought in a specialist search team from Christchurch to comb the wider environment.

Residents of Sovereign Street, Weka Street and North Road will notice a Police presence in the area over the next couple of days.

“We are looking for anything that could be relevant to the death of Mr Morton.

“This could be anything from items of interest to the investigation, including clothing or other items that could have been dropped by someone connected to the incident.”

“Residents should check their own properties for any unusual items that may have recently turned up and to contact the enquiry team if anything unexpected is found,” says Mr Johnston.

“Our team, assisted by staff from other parts of the country, are determined to solve this crime.

“We are still appealing to the wider community for information about Mr Morton as we build a complete picture of who he was, his habits and his routines.”

Anyone with related information should contact Nelson Police on 03 545 8960.

Alternatively, information may be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
