Heavy rainfall causes surface flooding in North Auckland

Heavy rainfall causes surface flooding in North Auckland and Great Barrier Island

Significant rainfall over night has led to surface flooding in areas of North Auckland, including Wellsford, Warkworth, and west Rodney.

Heavy rain is expected to continue from Warkworth to Whangaparaoa until later this evening.

Great Barrier Island has also experienced heavy rain and some surface flooding, and should expect more rain this afternoon.

Auckland Civil Defence and Emergency Management is monitoring the situation and is working closely with emergency services that are responding to incidents in these areas.

People should avoid driving, stay away from areas vulnerable to flooding and slips, and watch out for rising rivers and streams.

If you need help and there is a serious threat to life, phone 111.
