New environmental and climate policies for Auckland - Hey David Hay!

Mayoral candidate David Hay has released two major environmental policies on his website today:

Managed Retreat Strategy

As sea levels rise due to climate change, we will have to decide what we can hold on to and what we'll have to let go of. I will lead the development of a Managed Retreat Strategy to guide those decisions.

Environmental Asset Management

Managing Auckland's environmental assets with the same thoughtfulness and care as we apply to managing our infrastructure and other assets.

"These polices represent major new initiatives for Auckland Council." said Mr Hay. "They will bring the issues of climate change and ecosystem services management into the mainstream of Auckland's financial management, budgeting and investment planning."

"If I am elected Mayor of Auckland, I will drive these two initiatives as centerpieces for the next term of Auckland Council - equivalent in importance and scope as the Auckland Plan and the Unitary Plan have been for the past two terms."
