Horowhenua Youth Excellence Scholarships nominations open

Horowhenua Youth Excellence Scholarships nominations open

Nominations for Youth Excellence Scholarships offered by Horowhenua District Council are now open.

There are up to 12 scholarships available, awarded across four categories; Community Service, Excellence in Academia, Excellence in Art and Culture, and Excellence in Sport. Each scholarship is valued at $250.

Horowhenua District Mayor Brendan Duffy says while $250 may not seem a large sum of money, “if it sews the seed of opportunity for a young person then it is money well spent”.

"It is important that we continue to publicly acknowledge the contributions of our younger residents. The Youth Excellence Scholarships recognise these young people as role models and encourages them to continue to deliver excellence."

To be eligible, nominees must live in the Horowhenua District and be aged between 12 and 24 years-old.

Nominations close on Friday 23 September. Nomination forms can be filled out by the nominee themselves, provided it is signed by a support person such as a coach, teacher, instructor or team leader.

For more information, including the scholarship guidelines and criteria, and to download the nomination form, visit the Youth Excellence Scholarships page on Council’s website www.horowhenua.govt.nz or Council's customer service centres in Levin, Te Takere or the Foxton and Shannon libraries.

The scholarships will be awarded at Horowhenua District Council’s Civic Honours Awards ceremony on Tuesday 22 November.
