Important decision on older people’s housing passes today

The Governing Body today approved the council’s partnership with The Selwyn Foundation and the plan to redevelop its portfolio of homes for older Aucklanders. It also received updates on the achievements of three of the council’s six demographic advisory panels this term. The following is a digest of all decisions made.

The agenda is available on Auckland Council’s website and minutes will be added once confirmed. This meeting was also webcast on the council’s website and items are available on demand.

Items 1-6 were administrative items, including Acknowledgements and Achievements where councillors acknowledged the passing of the Unitary Plan, Auckland being named the world’s eighth most liveable city and new public transport fares. There was no Local Board Input, items of Extraordinary Business or Notices of Motion.

Item 11: Housing for Older People: Partnership for the management and operation of the Housing for Older people service and adoption of the High Level Project Plans.

The Governing Body has made its final decisions on the formation of a joint venture company to manage the council’s Housing for Older People portfolio. It today agreed to all of the provisions required to set up a partnership with The Selwyn Foundation and begin plans to further develop the portfolio.

Item 12: Achievements of the Disability Advisory Panel, Ethnic Peoples Advisory Panel and Pacific Peoples Advisory Panel in the 2013-16 term

Colleen Brown, Member Disability Advisory Panel; Dave Tomu, Chair Ethnic Peoples Advisory Panel, and Aiolupotea Sina Aiolupotea-aino Chair and Samuelu Sefuiva Member of the Pacific Peoples Advisory Panel spoke to the meeting about highlights and achievements during this term.

Achievements of the Seniors Advisory Panel, Rainbow Communities Advisory Panel and Youth Advisory Panel will be reported to the Governing Body next month.
