"Smales Road closed due to crash - East Tamaki"

Police and emergency services are at the scene of a two car crash on Smales Road in East Tamaki which occurred about 1:30pm.

Smales Road is closed between Springs Road and Te Irirangi Drive. Motorists are asked to avoid this area. Diversions are in place on Sir William Ave and Snave Place. It is expected that the road will remain closed for at least another hour (until 4:30pm).

Four people were injured in the crash, with a woman aged in her 30s transported to hospital in a serious condition.

No information regarding the cause of the crash is available at this stage.

Police thank motorists for their patience in the area ahead of the peak traffic hour.
