David Hay - High Performing Council Policy

David Hay - High Performing Council Policy

Media Release, 1 September 2016

Mayoral candidate David Hay has release a "high performing council" policy, prior to the People's Assembly - Living Wage meeting at St Matthews in the City tonight.

"This policy includes a “living wage” policy, but it is much more than that." said David Hay

"I have worked in many public sector organisations, and one of the best was Manukau City Council when Sir Colin Dale was CEO. It had a very flat management structure. It made a point of hiring good people and treating them well. It provided ample opportunity for learning and development.

"Before the Super City amalgamation, Manukau City Council had the lowest rates, the strongest balance sheet, and the fastest rate of economic growth of all the seven cities in the Auckland region. I am certain that Manukau City’s success was due to its employment policies, more than anything else.

"This policy directs the CEO of Auckland Council to emulate the management and employment policies that made Manukau City so effective as an organisation.

"For Auckland to succeed, the council must succeed. And the council can only succeed by investing in good people and treating them well." said David Hay.

A copy of the [policy is attached to this media release, and it is available online at: http://www.heydavidhay.nz/employment-policy/

Any number of movie examples come to mind, beginning with Rudolf Valentino’s role (over a century ago) as the romantic Arab hero in The Sheik...
