Pacific Trust Canterbury closure

Pacific Trust Canterbury closure

02 September 2016

MEDIA RELEASE

It is with regret that Pacific Trust Canterbury will be closing its doors today after serving the Pacific community in Canterbury and the wider South Island for 17 years.

We are proud of the services we have delivered over many years, the individuals and families that we have supported and the impact we have made for all our communities. We are especially proud of the staff who have served our communities and worked tirelessly to make a difference.

We have faithfully served our Pacific communities, providing General Practice, Well Child, Mental health, Public Health and community services. Following the earthquake our staff were amongst the first responders and were key in immediately supporting those people affected by the quake.

We have supported and led the establishment of the South Island Pacific Providers Collective and have provided input into national policy development over the past 17 years.

Our closing is the result of us never really recovering from the earthquake in 2010. We were required to grow rapidly in response to the urgent and growing needs of our communities and the demand has outstripped our ability to deliver. Like many small organisations in Canterbury we have struggled to continue. We are very sad to be closing our doors, however we feel that there is now an opportunity for another organisation to step in and move in a new direction.

We are working with our partners and funders to ensure a smooth transition for our clients to other services.

We would like to thank our communities and all our supporters.

Ms Selma Scott
Chairperson Pacific Trust Canterbury

ENDS.
