Redeveloped Levin Aquatic Centre to open with a splash
The Horowhenua community is invited to celebrate the re-opening of the Levin Aquatic Centre following its redevelopment over winter.
There will be a Community Fun Day held on Saturday 24 September from 11am to 4pm at the centre. Entry cost is just the general admission fee.
On offer will be plenty of fun family-friendly activities including pool inflatables, bouncy castle, face painting, dancing, sausage sizzle and giveaways.
On Sunday 25 September the Centre will be closed to the public to allow a canoe polo event to be held. A school holiday programme begins on Monday 26 September.
The $1.68 million redevelopment has included a complete re-work of the ground floor area includes renovating the toilets, showers and lockers, as well as upgrading the lobby, reception, shop and office area.
The existing covered area on the north side has been upgraded to include a conservatory area with large sliding doors leading to a landscaped outdoor area.
There is new tiered spectator seating, and the social and storage space has been extended.
A new hydrotherapy pool and conservatory area has replaced the two old spa pools.
The filtration and chlorine systems serving the Centre’s three swimming pools have also been upgraded to aid operational efficiency.
To allow the redevelopment work to happen, the Centre has been closed over winter. The Foxton Pools will remain open until Friday 23 September, after which they will close for remedial works before opening again at the start of the summer season.
