New and potential Waimapu Estuary Care Group recruits will be meeting next week to plan their next steps for restoring the estuary near Fraser Cove, Parkvale, Merivale and Greerton, in Tauranga Harbour.
“We had more than 25 people come along to our open day last July. We hope they’ll be able to join us for a meeting at 7pm next Tuesday 20 September.
Anyone else that would like to get involved is welcome to attend also,” said Waimapu Estuary Care Group Chairman, Stuart Greenshields.
The meeting is being held at Merivale Community Centre in Kestevan Street, Merivale. Mr Greenshields said it will be a great opportunity for those who have a passion for the estuary to discuss and agree on plans for future estuary restoration efforts.
“We’ll also be asking people to volunteer as committee members, so that we can keep projects on track, and take care of the finance and organisation side of things,” he said.
Mr Greenshields said that whether it’s posting on social media or getting wet feet at a working bee, there’s something that everyone can do to help regardless of experience or fitness level.
“We’re so lucky to have this beautiful piece of water on our back doorstep and to share it with such a wide variety of bird and fish life. If we all work together and give up a little bit of our time we can keep the estuary healthy for everyone to enjoy,” he said.
