Tairua Library inspires creative art
Tairua Library inspires creative
art
In need of inspiration? Tairua Library has become the colourful centre of artistic endeavour and imagination in recent weeks with the hosting of exhibitions and art sessions.
This morning the library on Manaia Rd hosted Room 3 from Tairua School to celebrate the 100-year birth of author Roald Dahl - the world's number one storyteller.
The library is adorned with colourful bunting, a Matilda reading corner in the Children's Area and hosted the local schoolchildren who created their own 'dream jars' inspired by Dahl's book BFG (the Big Friendly Giant).
Exhibition of mandala artist Heidi Turner
Tairua artist Heidi Turner is
the latest person to exhibit in the space at Tairua Library.
She has been painting mandalas for 16 years; painting on
paper, canvas and rocks. She will fossick for smooth rocks
and pick them up, carrying them awhile before deciding if
they’re right to be coming home with her, she
laughs.
Heidi also makes necklaces using a range of crystals and other gems and stones.
Heidi is exhibiting at the Tairua Library until the end of September. It is only her second-ever exhibition of works - her previous was held at The Depot in Devonport back in 2004 - and it followed her attendance of a Figjam creative workshop held in the Tairua Library during winter.
Coming up at Tairua Library - quilling with Sarah Alves
Tairua Youth Group 11-Up will create an art piece to display in the library with the help of librarian Sarah Alves, quilling artist. For more on dates and reserving a place, talk to Sarah at the library.
