How do you know who to vote for?

How do you know who to vote for?

Sustainable Waikato is a Hamilton-based interest group evolved from like-minded everyday people wanting to answer the question: “How do you know who to vote for?”

As many prospective candidates, particularly first-timers, were not achieving a public profile, especially with regard to their stance on sustainability, the group set an agenda of enhancing the availability of objective, researched information on election candidates and to endorse those who align strongly with key principles critical to the future of the Waikato region.

The Sustainable Waikato vision encompasses nine core ideas for sustainable governance, with a focus on environmental, economic, cultural and social needs. You can read it in detail here: http://sustainablewaikato.org.nz/vision.html

Of the 48 candidates in the 2016 Hamilton City Council election, 31 responded to an emailed questionnaire. From the 42 candidates standing for the Waikato Regional Council, 27 responded. This year the mayoral candidates for Waikato District Council were also included with three of the five responding to the emailed questionnaire.

Many of the responding candidates will be endorsed on the basis of their responses to the questionnaire and other publicly available information related to our key principles. The assessment team is finalising the endorsements which will be published on 16 September 2016 via facebook and on their website and e-newsletter.

Connect with Sustainable Waikato on their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/sustainablewaikato) or website, where the candidates’ responses to the questionnaire will be able to be viewed soon at www.sustainablewaikato.org.nz.
