Upper Hutt’s annual Breakaway Festival of Cycling programme announced
Upper Hutt’s annual cycle festival is about to kick off with events and fun for all ages.
UPPER HUTT, Wellington NZ, 19 SEP 2016—The programme for Breakaway Festival of Cycling has been announced, offering something for everyone in Upper Hutt during the month of October.
The Breakaway Festival of Cycling is in its fourth year of running and this year focuses on getting more people involved in cycling. The programme kicks off on Wednesday 5 October with a ‘Go by Bike Day’ event at Upper Hutt City Council offering a free breakfast and coffee for participants.
There are sessions for primary school children, secondary school students, and family and community events intended to offer people the opportunity to have a go at cycling.
“We are really pleased to be able to offer such a great programme to our local community, and at a low cost,” says Activation’s Team Leader, Ellie Davidson.
The programme includes:
• Go by Bike Day: 5 October 7.00 am – 9.00 am— A free family-based event held during the school holidays. Bike to a free breakfast at the Council’s Civic Centre.
• Primary Schools Wheel-a-thon Day: 18 October—The school with the highest percentage of participation will win a H2O Xtream Pool party and a $300 Maidstone Sports voucher. The school with the second-highest percentage of participation wins a $300 Maidstone Sports voucher.
• Secondary Schools Intro to Mountain Biking: 26 October— Open to all Upper Hutt colleges.
• Lunch on Wheels: 30 October 11.00 am – 1.00 pm—Come find the Activation team on your bike on the Rimutaka Incline for a free lunch.
• Community Cycling Group: Tuesdays at 9.30 am—A social cycling group that meets every Tuesday at the Trentham Harriers clubrooms, Trentham Memorial Park. Rides are up to two hours, mostly flat and followed by a coffee stop.
