Hutt Older Persons Expo returns

HUTT CITY COUNCIL NEWS RELEASE

21 SEPTEMBER 2016

Hutt Older Persons Expo returns

The Hutt Older Persons Expo has returned to Lower Hutt. More than 30 agencies and groups of interest to older people and those who support them will be participating in this popular community event.

The Expo includes displays by Freedom Medical Alarms, care co-ordination and older person needs assessment. There will also be giveaways and prize draws.

A main stage will have a variety of entertainment, including a piano and song performance, and keynote speeches that include presentations on:

· “What you can do if you are concerned about memory or thinking for yourself or somebody else?” by Emma Frommings, an educator from Alzheimers Wellington at 11am

· “The importance of appointing enduring power of attorney, and how these can be set up” by Hutt Valley lawyer Ashika Bali at midday.

Susan Bowden, one of the Expo organisers and Service Manager for the Hutt Valley Service Coordination Centre says, “This Expo is a fantastic one-stop shop for all the support and services available for older people, and those who support them. It’s a great opportunity to swap information, get a really good overview of all that’s available and have an entertaining day out.”

The Older Persons Expo is at the Petone Club, Udy Street, Petone on Tuesday 4 October, 10am-3pm.

There will be a regular, free shuttle service between the Britannia bus stop and the venue. A free bus from Wainuiomata to the venue can be booked at the Wainuiomata Library hub.

There will be complimentary tea and coffee from PAK’nSAVE Petone and a seniors special half-price lunch available.
The Expo is supported by Hutt City Council and the Petone Club.
