Police have taken a 14-year-old male into custody this afternoon following an alleged assault and carjacking on a woman in New Lynn.

The 62-year-old victim was approached by the alleged offender at around 1.30pm while she was sitting in her parked vehicle outside New Lynn Mall.

An altercation has taken place and the victim has fallen to the ground.

The offender has then allegedly driven off in her vehicle.

The victim was found by a member of the public on the ground, coming in and out of consciousness.

She is now in Auckland Hospital in a stable condition.

She received a serious head injury.

The exact circumstances of the incident are still being investigated and we are in the process of collating CCTV footage.

Following the alleged assault police received a number of calls from members of the public regarding the victim’s vehicle being driven erratically on the South Western motorway towards Counties Manukau.

They reported that it was being driven the wrong way on the motorway and was driving dangerously.

The vehicle was seen pulling into an address in Mangere, however the offender has fled from the scene on-foot.

Police staff carried out a number of area enquiries and have located the alleged offender shortly after.

Detective Senior Sergeant Roger Small says police are not looking for anybody else in relation to the incident.
