Thunderstorms expected later today

The Coromandel is set to experience thunder and lightning over the coming days with winds possibly up to 110km/hr in some places.

MetService has issued a severe gale warning for the Coromandel from Thursday afternoon until Friday afternoon, including squally thunderstorms.

It is going to be unpleasant no matter where you are on the Peninsula so take time now to secure outdoor furniture and trampolines. Driving conditions will also be difficult with saturated ground conditions increasing the risk of slips and flooding.

TCDC Civil Defence Controller Garry Towler reminds everyone to get into the habit of regularly checking in on the MetService and NZTA websites or the TCDC Facebook page when severe weather is approaching. "Being informed helps make good decisions" he says.

We do regular weather updates on our Facebook Page - www.facebook.com/ThamesCoromandelDistrictCouncil/
