Electoral support heads to south Auckland Council

Electoral support heads to south Auckland Council

With 48 hours to run in the local body elections, voting returns in south Auckland are tracking the lowest in the region. To help lift the level of voting in the south, a special booth will be put into Westfield Mall Manukau to encourage and support locals complete their voting documents.

Auckland Council is sending an electoral officer to organise special votes for those who are not on the electoral roll but are eligible and wish to vote, as well as helping those people who are on the roll but have not received their papers.

For those wanting to take up the offer of assistance, the team will be at the Westfield Mall Manukau on the ground level between ANZ and the Lotto from 3.00pm-6.00pm.

Electoral Officer Dale Ofsoske says there are many and varied reasons why a person may not have yet voted or not received their voting pack. These include:

• the person is not registered on the electoral roll;

• the person is registered on the electoral roll but at another address and has not updated their details when moving house;

• the person’s voting pack has been sent to a postal address that has not been checked recently, for example a post office box;

• the person is on the Unpublished Roll (whose details are unable to be provided to Auckland Council);

• someone else in the household may have collected the mail without advising others in the household.
