Update on Otangarei homicide investigation

Update on Otangarei homicide investigation

Please attribute to Detective Inspector Kevin Burke:

Northland Police are continuing to investigate the murder of Moses Mahanga, who was found dead in a vehicle in Otangarei last Tuesday evening (4 October 2016).

A tangi is being held for Moses today at Waiomio Marae and his family are being supported by Victim Support and Police.

Police have carried out a number of enquiries over the weekend and spoken to several people.

However, we still believe there may be people who were in the area at the time who have not come forward.

We urge anyone who can assist the investigation team to contact Whangarei Police.

We are also still seeking any sightings of the vehicle Moses was using in the Whangarei area on Tuesday 4 October 2016.

The vehicle is a 2010 white Mitsubishi Lancer, with distinctive black mag wheels.

Police are now also asking for sightings of a second vehicle that was in the area at the time or shortly after.

It is described as a small grey vehicle.

We would like to identify the occupants of that vehicle and speak with them.

Anyone with information that could assist the investigation can contact Whangarei Police Station on 09 430 4500.

Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
