21-year-old Cromwell man faces drug charges

This release can be attributed to Detective Senior Sergeant Malcolm Inglis.

Yesterday, Otago Lakes Police arrested a 21-year-old Cromwell man in relation to the importation of a class B drug and he has appeared in Queenstown District Court this morning.

The drugs are undergoing testing to establish exactly what they are, however Police believe the drugs to be MDMA (Ecstasy).

Approximately half a kilo with an estimated value of in excess of $200,000 was discovered by Police.

Police intercepted four packages destined to unoccupied holidays homes in the Clyde area.

Each package contained approximately 125 grams of MDMA and it is believed the packages were imported from Poland.

This is the second arrest recently in Otago Lakes-Central area for the importation of illegal drugs.

Police are disappointed to see young people thinking that this is an easy way to make money and having an adverse effect on their lives and others.

Otago Lakes-Central Police will continue to target the illegal importation and sale of drugs in the area and continue to ask the public for their help in the fight to stop the spread of illegal drugs within their community.

Police are hoping that these recent seizures will have an impact on the availability of drugs in the area.
