Taupo Bay gets better access to fast data services

Beach goers, holiday makers, and residents in the Taupo Bay area will now able to take advantage of better connectivity with their mobile phones thanks to Spark switching on its service on the Government’s Rural Broadband Initiative (RBI) cell tower.

From October 25, Spark will be delivering 3G and 4G on the 700 MHz spectrum to the popular beach spot, to improve mobile services.

Spark’s Northland Regional Lead Tim Robinsonsays, “We’re giving our Northland customers living in the Taupo Bay area better access to mobile services so they can stay connected with family and friends. 4G makes it even easier for people to share, upload and download content faster and more reliably than ever before”.

Spark’s 4G coverage across Taupo Bay uses the 700MHz radio spectrum, which means customers who have previously experienced slow internet speeds on a fixed line may now be able to sign up to Spark’s Wireless Broadband service or Spark Jump.

“4G on the 700MHz spectrum is ideal for rural residents as the signal can travel further from the cell tower than other frequencies.

Our Wireless Broadband product uses the 4G mobile network and allows customers fast, reliable, and affordable internet access. This is the key for people who currently lack access to an adequate internet service,” said Mr Robinson.
