Horowhenua escapes relatively unscathed following earthquake

Horowhenua District Council maintenance contractors are working to repair a Foxton water main that burst during the earthquake activity early this morning.

The water supply from the Foxton water tower reservoir has been shut down to allow for the repairs and get the supply back operating as soon as possible.

In the meantime, residents and businesses connected to the Foxrton water supply are asked to use water conservatively, as only one storage reservoir is operating currently. Any queries, please contact Council on 06 366 0999 or enquiries@horowhenua.govt.nz

Roading staff are currently inspecting the District’s roads and bridges, and so far there are no issues.

Council’s Levin office building has also been inspected by property officers and there are no signs of any damage.

For anyone who notices any earthquake damage to their dwelling or property this morning, there is a process to follow. Building owners should visit the EQC website www.eqc.govt.nz and fill out the online form to obtain an EQC number to then supply to the building owner’s private insurance provider. Anyone without internet access can call 0800 DAMAGE (326 243).

Any queries, please contact Council on 06 366 0999 or enquiries@horowhenua.govt.nz
