Residents invited to contribute to the future of parks and recreation

Dunedin (Monday, 14 November 2016) – Dunedin’s residents are being invited to have their say on the future of parks, recreation facilities and open spaces in the city.

The Dunedin City Council’s draft Parks and Recreation Strategy has been released for public feedback, and the consultation will run until 16 December at 5pm.

Recreation Planning and Facilities Manager Jendi Paterson says, “The strategy will set our path for the next 10 years, so we encourage people to read it and think about what they want for the city’s facilities and parks.”

People can read the draft strategy online or pick up a copy from DCC libraries, recreational facilities and community providers such as Sport Otago and the Department of Conservation.

The strategy aims to encourage Dunedin’s communities to be more active, more often, and to create parks and open spaces that are connected and valued. Two action plans detail how these objectives will be achieved.

Ms Paterson says many stakeholders contributed to the strategy, including the Department of Conservation, Kāi Tahu, Forest and Bird, Sport New Zealand, the Halberg Trust, Sport Otago, the Otago Regional Council and local clubs and organisations.
