Transport Update 5.05pm 15.11.16

UPDATE 5.05PM

The NZ Transport Agency and contractors have been working hard during the day to get roads open as quickly as possible, however there are still multiple road closures in place. 

If road closures and train cancellations have disrupted your travel plans and left you stranded in Kāpiti:

·         please look to friends and family for support in the first instance or contact local accommodation providers

·         If you don’t have any local support Council and the Red Cross will be opening a drop-in centre at the Kāpiti Community Centre at Ngahina St, Paraparaumu from 5:30pm where you can have a cup of tea and find out the latest information and make further plans.

We’ve been encouraging Kāpiti parents currently stuck in Wellington to make arrangements for friends or family to collect their children from school or childcare.  We checked in with local schools and preschools during the day, too, and they were putting plans in place for pupils whose parents were unable to collect them from school.
